It isn't taking a walk that is scary. It's taking a run and climb that is scary. From my experience that run/climb happens about 38 seconds on average after their first steps:)

PS After mastering the run/climb they usually are caught swapping spit with the neighbor girl about 15 seconds later:) Shit happens fast these days sport!
