There is no surplus in ss now. That's the problem with the system. All there are is a bunch of bonds(IOU's). The money has been spent by the politicians. The fund is actually over $2B in debt today. You are correct that you are paying for current retirees. But you are mistaken if you think you are paying for your own. If this is a major issue to you, Bush should have the advantage on this one.knc
