is there anybody who thinks we have democracy NOW due to current gun ownership?

We do not have a democracy. We have a representative republic...

In a democracy the popular vote would decide who's president, and not the electoral college.

But semantics aside, yes... when taking it to the actual fundamental nature of our history and culture, yes... gun ownership is intrinsic to preserving our freedoms and reinforcing the responsiveness of government to preserving those freedoms.

Does that mean if weapons were confiscated in one fell swoop tomorrow that we'd have an automatic dictatorship?

Not necessarily. But we'd have no means outside of the ballot box to influence govt. And the ballot box is only as powerful as the ability of the people to enforce their vote in the most extreme scenario, such as a president who might refuse to leave office or opts to unilaterally declare martial law.

Ron
