Ron, in the spirit of the dialogue we've had with Texas about oil over the years, I think you've taken PZ's comments out of context. The API numbers are good for the oil industry ( so good from his point of view), but has serious concerns for the the economy as you stated.
Today may be the day that "buy on dips" finally get squashed, and we have the capitulation that's needed. It may get a lot more uglier than it has been, but should sow the seeds for rebirth. As for the election, without taking sides, I think that continued energy prices will hurt the "environmentalist" Gore over the "oil-man" Bush. more importantly, a market crash even beyond what we've had would be a serious blow for the democrats in November. If Bush does win, at least we'll get Barbara Bush back. she's the best of the bush. larry

Ron,

<<<oil costs up so that the poor and the elderly can suffer this winter, new auto sales will drop, and consumers will cut back on spending>>>

I've gone on record as saying that oil and natural gas prices were too high. Mid to upper 20's would be just fine with me. As far as the shortage of heating oil is concerned, put the blame where it truly lies, on the Clinton administration, which has NO energy policy. When you go to the voting booth, please remember it's Clinton-Gore that has given us these high oil prices, which in turn is causing the market to tank. Gore has gone on record in his book "The earth in the balance", favoring $4 gasoline, so he should be feeling pretty good about now.

As for Bush giving us our tax money. You bet I'm for that. It's our money and we deserve to keep more of what we earn. If you want to hand all of your income over to the government, then have them give you back a few crumbs to live on, then have at it.

I picked up a Bush-Cheney bumper sticker yesterday....want me to send you one? :o)
