hands-over-fist may not be a informational characterisation, but what I meant was much, much better than cash. afterall, there have been many years of double digit %-age increases in the major averages.

many of the people I know (characterized on many threads here as J6P), have held thru all the dips (10/98, etc), large and small. I think if they are smart, once the market dips below the PRIOR years low, they should cash out. so they miss out on a couple years of gains. most of them got in long enough ago that they still made much more than in cash.

again, I'm not saying LTB+H is the way to go, but the permaBEARS have missed out on quite a run.
someday I'm sure they'll be right, but the trend is still up until it isn't :-)

Don, I cannot believe this is a true BEAR market in the sense that we will find a long grind down over a period of a year or so or even 6 months where the NASDAQ will end up around 2000 or less. Baby boomers are at max earning power and inheriting tons of $$$ and want somewhere to put it. Just wait, once the market starts to accept a lower growth rate and the carnage ends, this this is going to run up again -- maybe not to 5000 but I do not see 2000 in its future. I am cautiously optimistic at this point.
