1.13GHz PIII DELAYED until NEXT YEAR!

"Intel executives at the Microprocessor Forum here said on Tuesday they'd rather emphasize the Pentium 4 as Intel's performance leader instead of rushing to get the fixed Pentium III back on the market quickly.

"With the emphasis on Pentium 4, we don't see a lot of demand for (1.13GHz Pentium III) in the fourth quarter," said Bill Siu, vice president of Intel's Intel Architecture Group. "We're probably looking at next year (for 1.13GHz Pentium III to ship)."

P3 delayed until second quarter"

NOW I believe the P4 won't have good performance clock for clock.

What is Dell going to offer above 1GHz this year? P4 will only be available for one month.

Cirrus <"In addition, one source claimed that AMD may reduce their shipment numbers for K7 processors from 7.2 million to about 5.5 million.">

This would be very, very, bad IMO. I wonder why? Light DEMAND? This could explain why AMD has not commented on Q4, whatsoever. Only the party line that they are on track for Q3.

If this is the case, I will sell at LEAST half my shares. Probably much more.

Cirruslvr, re:<"In addition, one source claimed that AMD may reduce their shipment numbers for K7 processors from 7.2 million to about 5.5 million."> (from RWT's industry update)

Since Q4's production level is determined by the number of wafer starts during the months July, August, September, does this brilliant analyst believe AMD will be selling "K7"'s as jewelry when they start coming off the assembly line?

pure FUD!

Cirruslvr,

<This would seem to indicate that Intel has a bit more inventory on hand than AMD, though there have been some concerns expressed about 'channel stuffing' by AMD to make their shipment numbers.">

Most people have no real understanding of what channel stuffing means and the mechanics of how it gets implemented. I would say the RWT guy might fit into that camp.

<"In addition, one source claimed that AMD may reduce their shipment numbers for K7 processors from 7.2 million to about 5.5 million.">

Didn't this guy report a rumor that AMD already met targets for Q3 or something similar to that last month. And suddenly we have rumors of K7 ships going down from 7.2 to 5.5. Balderdash!

I would be surprised if AMD changes this number to anything significantly less than 7Mu.
