BTW, if you had a short portfolio for 10 to 40 years, you would lose. No 2% for you.

if people want to play the markets let them use all their discretionary income, not SS money.

Nobody said anything about "playing." Do you "play" in the market? With your retirement money? I invest my retirement money, and would love to have more control over MY money, because the government has sure screwed it up for too many years.

And no one said anything about taking anything from anybody. Bush is proposing a VOLUNTARY 2%.

That's just a stupid statement. If SS is a necessity for MOST seniors it tells me that they didn't do a very good job of managing their own money. What's the worst employment been for the last 40 years, something like 91%? Why should government be responsible for a senior who during their youth bought boats, lavish houses, and spent the majority of their earning years in debt? No where in the constitution is that written. A system that forces part of their SS into a self directed account just might teach some of YOU yahoo's, unwilling to take responsibility for your own action, something NEW: RESPONSIBILITY.
