IMO, LU failed to fully integrate the ORTL acquisition and didn't leverage to their full benefit. Note how they indicated that optical is healthy and the shortfall is mostly due to their switching equipment.

Legacy stuff has been in decline for years as telecos install next generation equipment that handles both voice and data traffic. No less than 3 years ago, McGinn stated in a Fortune interview that LU had to begin getting into the data biz and transitiion from their lineage - switches. They FAILED to execute on this because of the slow management team, Bell Lab arrogance (only inhouse stuff is good for us) and general inability to move quickly.

This note may be harsh, but it's real. I don't own LU (likely in my 401k funds though), and am not short. Just MO on what is going on and how they are adding fuel to the overall down market.
