The debate is about Social Security, which means that of necessity, the contributions will be spread out over time. It also means people will not be buying on margin, at least not for these funds.......

I apologize, in trying to recollect the data, I was off. Investments on the downside of the bubble, before hitting bottom, took several years to recoup. On the upside, it was about ten years:

Also, notice that volatility in the first thirty years of the chart was much worse than since the '29 crash, precisely because of things like stricter margin rules......
