JDSU--KPMG Consulting Supports JDS Uniphase in Strengthening Its Infrastructure
First Phase of Global Implementation Completed in Seven Months for Eight Sites
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- KPMG Consulting, LLC, a leading Internet integration services company, announced today the completion of the first phase of a global integration of Oracle enterprise applications systems for its customer JDS Uniphase Corporation (Nasdaq: JDSU - news; Toronto: JDU - news). This technical integration and associated business process redesign is expected to enable JDS Uniphase to further integrate acquired companies and continue its rapid pace of growth. JDS Uniphase is a market leader in the design, development, manufacture and distribution of advanced fiber optic components and modules for the telecommunications and cable television industries.

``Once all of our sites are integrated, the implementation of the Oracle solution will provide us with a common infrastructure platform across JDS Uniphase which we will use as the foundation for our customer and supplier e- business applications,'' said Joe Riera, vice president and chief information officer of JDS Uniphase. ``Our IT strategy leverages a single application service provider (ASP)-based global data center with outsourced implementation services by KPMG Consulting, to provide quick scalability of resources to help meet our timelines. We expect our global Oracle-based ERP solution to enable us to improve our efficiencies and internal processes.''

The Phase I program included JDS Uniphase's operations in San Jose, Calif., Chalfont, Pa., Bloomfield, Conn., Melbourne, Fla., Sydney, Australia, Zurich, Switzerland and Plymouth, United Kingdom.

``Through our work with KPMG Consulting, we have achieved a significant initial milestone in our effort to create a scalable infrastructure to support the growth of JDS Uniphase,'' said Paul Brinkley, JDS Uniphase director of IT applications and e-business. ``With the continuing support of KPMG Consulting, we expect to follow-up on the first phase by integrating JDS Uniphase's facilities in Canada, the remainder of Europe and our most recent acquisitions in the United States and Asia, all of which are now underway.''

The implementation is based on KPMG Consulting's R2i (Rapid Return on Investment) solutions methodology and toolkit for Oracle financials, manufacturing, distribution, and human resource management systems.

The R2i solution deployed by KPMG Consulting includes pre-configured applications, industry specific setups, package-enabled best practices, project management, change management and pre-configured technology infrastructure, and provides companies with the opportunity to receive immediate benefits from their technology investment.

According to Karin Maday, a managing director with KPMG Consulting, R2i is designed to help KPMG Consulting clients to accelerate implementation, reduce risk and maximize tangible business benefits. KPMG Consulting was asked to work with JDS Uniphase to standardize common business practices and data across all business units to create a unified JDS Uniphase operations infrastructure.

``JDS Uniphase has undertaken this complex implementation involving the elimination of several separate legacy systems, knowing that it was key for enabling its continued rapid growth both organically and through acquisitions,'' said Maday. ``We are working with the JDS Uniphase business and IT teams to drive this implementation to support its business objectives.''

Phase II work is now underway and includes implementation of core applications in the remaining sites, as well as sales force automation capability across the company.

Wall Street Journal wanted to do a story on the porch last spring when the market was dragging the bottom. The story was to be about the Porcher's postive attitude on a down market: Look what I found surfing last night;

Someone is giving us a bad reputation or we are getting a bad rap;
