Ray, I think AMD's report is good. We'll see what the market thinks. Excerpts from AMD's conference call:

<AMD reported 3q profits of 64¢/shr v expectations of 62¢

AMD hit the earnings mark, but fell a little short of some of the revenue estimates of some analysts; revenues of $1.21b are slightly less that than the estimate of $1.23b that Merrill's Joe Osha and others had predicted

AMD expects revenue of $4.8b for FY 2000

AMD execs were upbeat about the demand for its chips that have been driving its growth; it sold 6.9m units this quarter - AMD expects to sell out of the Athlon processor in 4q - the company exceeded its goal of 3.6m units sold

AMD's CEO said that the newest version of the AMD Athlon processor is an "overwhelming success" and demand remains strong; AMD's Duron processor continues to be the performance leader in that space and is on the steepest ramp of unit shipments in any processor in AMD's history

Flash memory is another high point on the call; this memory is used in cell phones and set-top boxes as well as in Internet infrastructure boxes - AMD execs say that demand continues to exceed supply there

Visibility is excellent at least through the next year; sales growth for 4q could be more modest than in this past quarter

Memory and chip sales grew by well over 100% this quarter compared to last year; this is all good news, but we're still waiting to hear more about the company's 4q outlook

Given widespread reports about the weakness in PC demand over the past quarter, some analysts expect AMD's outlook to be cautious

Also, we're waiting to hear about the average selling price of AMD products; analysts expect it to be $95-100 for the microprocessors

Analysts looking forward to hearing about major contracts AMD may have with big PC vendors; this could indicate how well AMD is able penetrate the high-end corporate market>
