I think there is a profit model for the Internet. Its called starting out small, building the business, becoming proitable, then going public. All these jokers thought that AOLs model of "grow big fast" applied to any enterprise. But AOLs model was just a telecom/utility model, no different then building a railroad or telegraph in the last century. What there b2c companies should have done was look at the history of Sears and Wannamakers and Hudson: Start with one store, become profitable, then expand.
