Texas was won from Mexico and not France wasn't it?

Yep. But The good ol' US of A did not participate in winning Texas from Mexico. They stood off and watched while Santa Anna massacred the folks in the Alamo then chased the scraggly Texian army all the way to San Jacinto.

Then Sam Houston and Captain Sylvester (among others) kicked ass, took names, and captured "El Presidente" a good ten years before the wooden leg incident and the war of US vs Mexico (1846-1848).

Different wars
Different folks
Different strokes.

The US had very little to do with Texas' Independence (1836). Texas was an independent nation for a short time before the US decided to let 'em into the US of A.(October 13, 1845) Then, we had a war with Mexico, (see pbs.org, which is President Polk's Declaration of War on Mexico)
