If there is any attribute that is close to being "exclusively" human, it is culture. If the aging woman was privy to knowledge that the younger members of the tribe needed, then it would make sense to have her along. She's pulling her weight as it were. Language in the abstract sense allows time travel. You can "see" and "hear" things that existed long before you were ever conceived.

That goes back to what I've said here: just because the mechanism is exposed, the magic of the process DOESN'T disappear. Your example is a wonderful example of this.

The value of age, IMO, is the dimension of time which extends beyond my reach through other means.

How true, Rambi. Fascinating implications! One cannot help but admire the patience exhibited by these guys and gals doing the reconstructing.

Language apears to be the evolutinary difference that has brought us here. Is this then the vehicle to where we are going? Abstract thought--gateway to the stars...
