Earnings News:

First Data Corp. (FDC) is a processor of credit card payments. The company gave upside guidance. It raised its estimates for 2000 earnings to $2.09 to $2.14 a share from an earlier forecast of $2.02 to $2.07. The company was expected to earn $2.07 a share. FDC closed at $40.44.

Three-Five Systems Inc. (TFS) is a maker of liquid-crystal displays used in cellular phones and calculators. The company posted Q3 profit of 19 cents a share, 4 cents better than the estimates. TFS closed at $20.94.

Harley-Davidson Inc. (HDI), the motorcycle maker, reported Q3 profit of 27 cents a share, a penny better than the estimates. HDI closed at $46.50.

Corning Inc., the maker of fiber optic cable, said Q3 profit will beat analysts' estimates because of strong demand for its products. Corning expects to report Q3 earnings of 34 to 35 cents a share vs. the 30-cent average estimate. Watch this one help the fiber optic sector. GLW closed at $83, last traded at $90.

Tricon Global Restaurants Inc. (YUM) is the owner of fast-food restaurant chains (Pizza Hut, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Taco Bell). The company reported a Q3 profit of 77 cents a share, 7 cents better than the estimates. YUM closed at $29 3/4.

Redback Networks Inc. (RBAK), the telecommunications equipment maker, reported Q3 profit of 2 cents a share. It was expected to lose 2 cents. RBAK closed at $112.56, last traded at $114.

Home Depot, the largest home-improvement retailer, warned fiscal Q3 profit will miss forecasts, because of lower retail prices for lumber and building materials. Profit will be about 28 cents a share. It was expected to earn 31 cents a share. HD closed at $49, last traded at $37.50.
8:23 Imax Corp. (IMAX), the big-screen movie company, warned it expects to report a "modest loss" for the third quarter. The company was expected to earn 23 cents. IMAX closed at $14 1/2, last traded at $9.50.

Applied Micro Circuits Corp. (AMCC) reported Q2 profit of 26 cents per share versus 23 cents expected by most. The firm also announced a 2-for-1 stock split, Goldman Sachs raised its FY01 estimates by 12.6% to $1.07 and FY02 by 13.4% to $1.44. This one should be strong today. AMCC closed at $167 7/8, last traded at $181.

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD), the computer chipmaker, reported Q3 profit of 64 cents a share, 2 cents better than the estimates. AMD closed at $21 13/16.
