J E R U S A L E M, Oct. 12 — Israeli helicopter gunships
opened fire near Palestinian President Yasser
Arafat’s headquarters in the West Bank city of
Ramallah today, following the killing of two
Israeli soldiers by a Palestinian mob.
But the Palestinian leader, who also
has a headquarters in self-ruled Gaza City,
was not there.
The retaliation came after an angry
mob of Palestinian youths seized four
Israeli soldiers, killing two and seriously
injuring one soldier, who was taken to
hospital. The fourth soldier is believed to
have escaped.
