Tommaso:

Good comments.

I think the Euro will end up becoming the global reserve currency of choice, but it hasn't got a chance of rising until the torrent of U.S. corporations rushing to Euroland to borrow dries up a bit. That, plus the European propensity to always be the last bodies to be bagged in a U.S. stock market blow-off , have kept the Euro in the deep doo-doo. Its day is coming.

I view gold today as the most delightful currency "insurance premium" I have ever seen. When we buy insurance, we happily pay a premium, and at the end of the year, we happily bid adieu to that premium. When one buys some form of gold today, one gets a superb, leveraged currency insurance policy and at the end of the year, the premium is still owned (albeit a bit "discounted" of late). (g)

Best, Earlie
