Analysts polled by First Call expected a profit of 9 cents a share. Revenue totaled $201.2 million, compared with $113 million in the second quarter. Juniper shares rose $7.89 to $207.50 on Island after closing down $6.39 to $199.61. Silicon Storage Tech (SSTI: news, msgs) beat third-quarter Wall Street estimates and boosted its earnings outlook for the fourth quarter. Shares rose $1.06 to $23.50 on Island after closing up $2.38 at $22.44. Silicon Storage reported third-quarter net income of $36.3 million, or 37 cents per share, compared with $22.5 million, or 24 cents per share, for the same quarter last year. Three analysts surveyed by First Call expected earnings of 35 cents or 36 cents per share, on average. Revenue was $163.7 million, compared with $103.2 million during the same quarter last year. SST said it now expects fourth-quarter earnings of 48 cents per share. Analysts surveyed by First Call currently expect earnings of between 36 and 46 cents per share. Also, earnings expectations for 2001 were raised to $2.90 per share from $2.06 per share. Shares of PMC-Sierra (PMCS: news, msgs) climbed 4.1 percent after the broadband semiconductor product provider reported a better-than-expected third-quarter profit. PMC-Sierra posted a third-quarter pro forma profit of $56 million, or 31 cents per share, compared with $18.7 million, or 11 cents, in the year-ago quarter. Analysts surveyed by First Call expected the company to earn 26 cents for the quarter, on average. PMC-Sierra shares rose $6.56 to $165 after closing up 75 cents to $158.44. Veritas (VRTS: news, msgs) shares rose 4.2 percent after losing 12 percent during the regular session. Veritas Software reported third-quarter earnings of $70.3 million, or 16 cents a share, compared with the year-ago total of $38.9 million, or 9 cents a share. Analysts expected a profit of 14 cents a share in the latest quarter. Revenue totaled $317.2 million, an increase of 73 percent from $183.4 million in the year-ago period. The company cited expansion of its Unix business as well as steady revenue and market-share growth in the Windows NT space. Veritas shares rose $5.05 to $126.69 on Island after closing down $16.42 to $121.75. Lam Research (LRCX: news, msgs) shares edged up after the company reported first-quarter net income that was better than expected. Lam Research reported first-quarter net income of $66.1 million, or 48 cents a share, a nickel ahead of the consensus estimate. Last year, the company posted net income $24.7 million, or 19 cents a share, for the first quarter. Revenue totaled $432 million, up 79 percent compared with the year-ago total.
