You seem to be implying that being convicted of a hate crime would or should automatically mean the death sentence. Is this true?

No. Not ANY hate crime. We've been discussing this in the context of the Byrd case which was a racially based murder. I would welcome the death penalty as a mandatory sentence in a "hate crime type" motivated murder.

I've not read anything other than news reports related to the Byrd case.

The original point was that your candidate tried to imply that a Texas Hate Crime Law had something to do with the death penalty for the three men convicted in Byrd's death which was not true when he was called to task on the issue.

We've moved on to numerous secondary points since then.
