He understood what was important, and applied that understanding to the matters that came before him as president, surrounding himself with good people to advise him and implement policy. He knew better than most presidents how a CEO is supposed to behave, setting broad policy, managing a team, deciding what cannot be handled at a lower level, and doing what only he can, like schmoozing Congressional leaders........
