Online etailers go out of business every day. Two we were looking at for clearance deals today were
www.maryscorner.com
www.adatom.com
and
www.redgorilla.com is rumored to be going out of business...and the list just grows.

But my point really was to give a different view than Tony when he said this:

"or is there a huge Blue collar population out there making less than 40-50K a
year in their household who,, clip coupons and ...will drive to 3 difft stores to get the best deal on 4 items..."

We don't need to spend the gas and the time to go to three different stores to get a deal. All we need to do is hit the internet for information. I can find a 14 hour TIVO at Amazon for 99.00 with a rebate from TIVO making it free. If I order one and decide I want another after Amazon sells out I can walk into Sears and have them price match with my receipt. That particular deal is over but everyone I know got a free 14 hour TIVO courtesy of my girlfriend and she ended up selling quite a few on Ebay. There is a coupon site on the net that has mothers as their primary demographic and is perjoratively known as "mytampons". They know how to find a deal. Nothing can crash a site faster than a deal hitting that site...other than a deal hitting a particular site known for Tech Heads. You have a person post that Best Buy sells a Western Digital 45 gig Hard Drive for 130.00 and CompUSA will price match AND there are 90 dollars worth of rebates. How fast do you think those hard drives lasted? They are virtually gone. If your local Best Buy still has the drive a call your local CompUSA and see if it is still in stock. You won't find many of them in the US after the news hit about the Price Match with Best Buy.

If my girlfriend goes to that site and posts her deal that she did at Staples they will sell out of that camera by tomorrow and probably today. They get that camera from Ingram Micro and I don't know their cost but they could very well lose money on each one of those sales.

Etailers and retailers have a whole new dynamic that they have to deal with in the new era of the internet.

The days where you have to beat the street to really find the deals are over at least for now. Information is king and you can get it on the internet. I don't think the internet is a fad in and of itself. How the businesses will stay in business is another story.
