Rarebird: Some wars are not so decisive. Terrorism is not only designed to instill fear -- in this case it is not the likely intent. It is more likely intended to cause a military reaction such as we saw today. The military reaction fans hatred and builds on old wounds, very deep and non-negotiable beliefs and forms of social bonds that have developed over thousands of years. It is impossible to know how calculated all of this is, but this is not a war to be won with air-raids. It is a no-win situation. You cannot afford not to react, but reacting just fans the fire. In the mean time, our economic interest are held hostage at moment in time when we are very vulnerable -- again, we cannot know if this is calculated, but could it be otherwise?
