Frank,

I don't expect to be believed, but I was hoping for much better things from AMD yesterday. If AMD had hit a home run, I would feel much better about Intel's prospects next week. As it is, I am left with the terrible feeling that it may disappoint too. Fortunately, we already had a warning on the revenue issue.

I recognize your disappointment...and to a degree, I too am disappointed but more at the market's reaction although we all know it could have been much worse. I think too much emphasis was placed on AMD's report and expectations were pushed up. As J. Fowler posted, when cooler heads prevail, the markets will see the positives in AMD's report more clearly.

In my post to you. I kind of misspoke...I said the PC market had softened or rather its growth rate had slowed. Actually I think its more complicated than that. I think earlier in the year when Intel said they were capacity constrained, I think they were fudging to some degree and were having problems with yields, forcing the OEMs to double up on their orders. Then when yields improved and orders were filled, the OEMS began pulling their orders and suddenly demand evaporated. I think for the next quarter, Intel and AMD probably will have to work down their inventories. Not great news but again it could be worse.

I agree we are all in the same boat. That being the case, Niceguy should be wishing Intel well, but the Colorado Rockies will win the World Series before that happens.

Its too bad the competition couldn't be more like ALTR and XLNX, too good companies that push each other but maintain their profitability. For years certain Intel longs trashed AMD, and now that things have turned somewhat, some AMD longs feel the need to retaliate.

And we wonder why the Israelis and Palistinians, or the Catholic and Protestant Irish can't get along?!!

Frankly, it sucks and I am sick of it.
