The extreme market weakness seems to be the result of maximal combined uncertainties we happen to be facing at this time:

1. Earnings, especially high tech earnings
2. Cost of Energy
3. Middle East crisis (#2 and #3 are joined at the hip)
4. Election outcome (presidential and congressional)
5. The fate of Euro
6. Phantom inflation as AG sees it
7. Other childhood nightmares brought on by the above

I am sure you can add on infinitely to the list....
