And the affect Nakamaura may have on any case with Nichia?

It is hard to believe that Nakamura would have joined Cree if he thought that Cree was violating Nichia's patents. This is a nice confidence booster when it comes to the patent battle.

With the added brightness LED's they've now effectively put saphire out of business.

Does anybody know the power consumption of Cree's LED's vs. Sapphire based LED's? This is the last area that I can think of in which Sapphire might have an advantage....it seems like Cree has caught them in brightness, are smaller and are cheaper. I'm not sure what other considerations there would be for a designer trying to pick an LED.

Nortel and JNPR starting to shake Cisco's cage 'big time'.

Nortel? Big time? Cisco demands a certain amount of respect. Even Juniper's CEO was full of respect for Cisco in the CC tonight.

Here are my notes from the Juniper CC:

CREE sapphire out of business

Mtnlady,

as long as SiC based devices can't fill the demand, buyers will use the Sapphire devices to fill the gap. From what I can see the sapphire boys seem to be growing just as fast as CREE. Certainly their capital equipment demands are similarly strong.

To really put the sapphire guys out of business, Cree needs to ramp supply faster. As far as ramp speed CREE and Uniroyal seem to be neck and neck. Uniroyal also has bought its own SiC supply, which probably makes them a stronger competitor long term.

Still my money is on CREE.

One of the things O'neil states is that for a new bull market to start you need new leaders. The gaurd will always change as the leaders of the last market become more mature and cant grow as fast.

>> The 'generals' of the market are slowly changing.

I think it would be a mistake to come to any conclusions on the Ides of October. We go through this almost every fall. I'm speculating we'll be amazed at how leadership reverts back to the Silverbacks over the next few months.
