he's already at it...and in the current situation, i'd rather hedge shorts than closing them. but i agree, a sharp reversal could happen anytime. i agree on the bottom catching part...that doesn't mean i won't try. caught the April swoon in the NAZ for instance perfectly. by all traditional measures the market's already heavily oversold...but when it was extremely overbought by the very same measures, it still went a lot higher.
