I'm sorry I'm so late in responding.

First you said he would not sign it and now you are saying it never made it to his desk. look I don't know why there was no special Hate bill signed. Were I to make a guess, it would be for the same reason most of the folks on this thread disagree with the concept. The prevalent feeling is that the law is just another superfluous layer on top of existing laws against crimes. It's another one of those make us feel good form over substance acts which for all the good intentions really doesn't change a damn thing. Probably a lot like the Brady Bill, which I doubt for all intents and purpose had much effect on anything.

If the government really wanted to do something truly worthwhile toward saving lives and ending much pain and suffering they would outlaw tobacco and offer addiction treatment for the 25% of the population that still smoke. Even if they keep tobacco legal but still offered treatment. But they won't and you know why; they could not stand the loss of tax revenue. They will wail and whine about how much smoking costs the country. Their answer is to raise the tax and suck life from those addicted. Would it surprise you to know most smokers are lower income and the cost burden is way proportionately higher for them. Hundreds of thousand will get ill and die but our benevolent lawmakers find them too good a source of tax dollars to do something truly beneficial for the country. Oh yeah, they really have the poor at heart. Ever wonder why the government offers treatment for untaxed drugs but not for those that are taxed? Instead they break out the band and make a big deal about passing some dumb law which won't mean squat. Such hypocrisy! The country is so full of dull witted people who never see beyond their noses.
