We can finally put the bear scam (re: NEC/Hitachi jv) out to pasture. From the fool.com:

<<Who's making the DRAM? Hitachi, NEC, or Elpida?

It sounds like NEC and Hitachi will continue with SDRAM production leaving just the design and sales stuff to the Elpida joint venture. How does this impact the Rambus contracts for SDRAM and DDR?
"The main DRAM production centers at NEC and Hitachi, NEC Hiroshima and Hitachi Nippon Steel Semiconductor Singapore, will integrate their production capabilities to provide foundry services to the new firm, whilst production capacity at other NEC and Hitachi fabs will also be made available. Through these measures, NEC-Hitachi Memory, Inc. will have integrated development, sales and production operations."

It pisses me off to think how many times con-artists like scum, danny boy, ali baba and bihi had me worried on this one.

Blake,

I have had discussions with associates about the underlying purpose of the anti rambus campaign. The tactics of follower companies must be to delay where possible the introduction of leadership products. I believe the tactic is very old.

There is another variation of this tactic practiced by large companies against smaller more innovative companies. Companies in Silicon valley frequently try to stifle new innovation from smaller companies by tying their product up with bad faith exclusive distribution contracts. There are many weapons to chose from but the underlying tactic is the same.

Companies like AMD and MU simply do not have the resources to maintain their production facilities at state of the art levels. This is why we see the huge amount of anti rambus propaganda. MU could end up on the auction block if they fail to pull this DDR scam off. AMD has already been taken out to the woodshed because its "delay" advantage with respect to Intel will be gone next year.

These tactics would have been less effective if Intel had not made many slips over the last year.
