I understand Fidelity rejuggled most of its sector fund management and many of them left the firm for greener pastures. Typically new fund managers will clean out their funds.

Same may be happening at Janus as several have left recently.

The Ameritrade index (ameritradeindex.com) has been heavily buy orders (retail). I suspect that since most mornings have been up before the real action, the retail investor is still net buying. When you see a stock take a big dive, you see a big number of buy orders in Ameritrade.

IBD publishes MF cash ratio.

"If I'm up 200%, I can ride out a 25% correction."
and if it turns into a 50% correction? then has to double just to get back where it was. the money isnt yours unless you take the profits.

<<does anyone have any reasonably current information how much money is sitting on the sidelines? >>

Margin debt levels as of two weeks ago were back up to near the highs at the beginning of the year. I think until this gets flushed out of the system there is no "money on the sidelines".

This time it is corporations and financial institutions that are holding the bag in the margin dept. and its not a very pretty picture.
