Chuck,

Boy, that is more aggressive than I thought given there is no P4 yet. Looks to me AMD priced 1.2Gs for P4 intro at the end of October and couldn't back out of its commitments!

AMD wants all the 1 GHz business RIGHT NOW, with the best price of 1 GHz P3 at $677 on Pricewatch, you could get 2 same speed Athlon and $115 back, it "forces" buyers to buy AMD, it would be quite revealing to know how the P3 1G of vendors on Pricewatch are moving.

Chuck, at $283 for a 1 GHz Tbird, that's only $156 more than a Celeron 700. ($127 is cheapeat on pricewatch)

Who the heck would buy the latter anymore?

I like this "performance war" type of price war. Don't drop your low-end to nothing, just drop your high-end to mid-range prices, and draw "up" some folks thinking of going low-end, in addition to taking all the high-end business.

p.s. yeah, i realize there's also the infrastructure cost difference, but still, for probably double the performance...
