discussing the habit of excluding potentially embarrassing episodes from history lessons.

Of course we have embarrassing moments in our history. Because our history is made up of the decisions of any number of leaders who think they are doing the right thing at the time, but wind up screwing it up long-term...

I'm certainly not afraid to discuss our history, whether it be "Manifest Destiny", Slavery, Mossadegh, or any other ugly wart in our past... And while I have no idea which public/private school you were a product of, my history courses covered the age of US imperialism.

But by god, as a relatively young nation we have a lot more to be proud of than sorry for.....

We have become the multi-cultural mixing bowl of a nation that Europe or Asia will never be able to match because of their own prejudices and racism. And we have an economy, a way of life, and a political freedom that has people literally DYING to move here, as opposed to the other way around.

And I'm not being some kind of fanatical patriot. All I doing is stating facts based upon the documented experiences in our history.

While other parts of the world might be quaint, exciting, or culturally enlightening, they are by no means as egalitarian as we are with regard to opportunities for success and rising above.

All people have to do is seize that opportunity...

Regards,

Ron
