Dallas Semiconductor Corp. (DS) rose as high as 30.75 in after-hours trading. It closed at 29.56 in regular trading. The semiconductor maker said in a press release distributed by PR Newswire that it had net income of 42 cents a share in its third quarter ended Oct. 1. It was expected to earn 40 cents, the average estimate of analysts polled by First Call. The company didn't return a phone call seeking confirmation.

Gateway Inc. (GTW) rose as high as 47.25 in after-hours trading. It closed at 43.63 in regular trading. The direct-seller of personal computers said third-quarter net income was 46 cents a share, meeting the average estimate of analysts polled by First Call. Chief Financial Officer John Todd said sales in Europe remain strong and rose 13 percent in the third quarter.

Juniper Networks Inc. (JNPR) rose as high as 213.25 in after- hours trading. It closed at 199.61 in regular trading. The maker of Internet routers said it had third-quarter earnings, excluding costs for goodwill and deferred compensation, of 17 cents a share. PMC-Sierra Inc. (PMCS) rose as high as 170 in after-hours trading. It closed at 158.44 in regular trading. The maker of communications chips said it had third-quarter profit, excluding acquisition and stock compensation costs and investment gains, of 31 cents a share. It was expected to earn 26 cents, the average estimate of analysts polled by First Call.

Power-One Inc. (PWER) rose as high as 72.44 in after-hours trading. It closed at 64.50 in regular trading. The maker of power supplies for electrical equipment will replace Unicom Corp. (UCM) in the Standard & Poor's 500 Index, Standard & Poor's said in a press release distributed by Business Wire. Unicom is being acquired by Peco Energy Co. (PE), a member of the S&P 500. Standard & Poor's officials didn't return a phone call seeking confirmation. Unicom fell 88 cents to 52.19.
