Perhaps you should install another version over the top of your present one.If you decide to do it you'll be asked if you want to reinstall new components or words to that effect, say yes.I know you probably know that but am trying to touch all the bases.
Cheers
Ed

Don'y know if this will help with your problem but their is a repair feature in IE 5.5:

1. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.

2. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Internet Explorer
5.5 and Internet Tools.

3. Click Add/Remove.

4. Click Repair Internet Explorer, and then click OK.
