The VIX hit 36.74 shortly after the open this morning.

The only day that it closed above that level in 2000 was April 14:

chart.yahoo.com

Of course, the market did not instantly recover from there, and is now lower than it was then. But in the short/medium term, it was the second run at the mid to high 30's the VIX made in May that was the better buying opportunity.

This one may take awhile to sort itself out. The silver lining is that the X-Mas shopping season is going to be awful because we will have the exact reverse sentiment from last year. And that, IMO, will cause Greenspan to lower rates 3 times in the next 9-12 months.

JMH ramblings.....

Did you spill something on your keyboard?
Pepsi, DR. Pepper or maybe little Jorj spilled something.
My guess is that you spilled something and it has one of your keys stuck.
Take the back off of your keyboard and take a q-tip with some rubbing alcohol and clean it. That may solve your problem.

Here's a stop-gap fix for you.

Anytime you need to type the letter "g", hold down the Alt key, type "103" on your numeric keypad and release the Alt. The "g" will appear because it's character 103 in the ASCII chart.

"G" would be 71.
