the US wants middle east leaders who will steal their countries wealth

Sarmad - at the risk of having the discussion on this thread degrade to politics, I will say only a few things. Certainly all governments have done things of which their citizens should not be proud - but some of us are born into situations where we inherit sins. While I can't speak for other Americans, I personally don't wish to steal anyone else's wealth - if someone gives me money, I'm hoping it is in return for some good or service of value that I can provide. It is unfortunate that just about every government in the world at some point in history has been guilty of imposing autocratic rule and excessive cruelty upon peoples of other lands - not just the West - but the East, the North and even the South. To just name a few:

>>The British in India, Asia, the Middle East and Africa (18th, 19th and 20th centuries)

>>The French in Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Africa (18th, 19th and 20th centuries)

>>The Americans in Viet Nam (20th century) and Africa (19th century slave trade)

>>The Dutch in Southeast Asia and South Asia (16th-20th centuries)

>>The Germans all over Europe and parts of North Africa and beyond (20th century)

>>The Portuguese in South America and Asia (16th-19th centuries)

>>The Spanish in South America, North America and Asia (16th-19th centuries)

>>The Turks in North Africa and Southern Europe (13th century - 19th century)

>>The Japanese in China, Korea and most of Southeast Asia and parts of South Asia (20th century)

>>The Chinese all over Asia (differnt times during the last 5000-6000 years)

>>The Mongolians all over Asia (12th-14th centuries)

>>The Burmese in Southeast Asia (11-13th centuries, 16th-17th centuries)

>>The Cambodians (or Khmers) in Southeast Asia (6th-15th centuries)

>>The Arabs in most of the Middle East and North Africa (7th-18th centuries)

>>The Israelis in Palestine (20th century)

>>The Persians in Central Asia and the Middle East (500-300 BC?)

>>The Romans in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (400 BC to 500 AD?)

>>The Greeks in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (2000 BC - 500 BC?)

>>The Egyptians in the Middle East and Africa (3000 BC - 1000 BC?)

The list above is not comprehensive and is basically off the top of my head from my very limited knowledge of history.

So where does that leave us. Regarding recent events, we have the following:

1. There was no justification for yesterday's bombing of a US Navy ship in Yemen.

2. There was no justification for the mob killing of 3 Israelis in Ramallah.

3. There is no justification for the 90+ Palestinians and Arabs that have been killed by Israeli soldiers during the past week - including the several children that have been killed.

4. There is no justification for the bombings that have taken place in public places in Israel in recent years.

5. There is no justification for Israeli bombing of Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon in the 1980s.

6. There is no justification for the 200+ US Marines that were killed in Beirut in 1983 (or was it 84).

7. There is no justification for the 20+ year Israeli occupation of South Lebanon.

8. There is no justification for the murder of Leon Klinghoffer on the Achille Lauro in 1985.

9. There is no justification for the murder of Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics in 1972.

10. There is no justification for the Israeli capturing and further occupation of the Sinai, the Golan Heights, East Jerusalem and beyond in the 1967 war.

11. There is no justification for the 1948 war that left many Arabs and Palestinians dead or homeless.

12. There is no justification for the pre-1948 British occupation of Palestine.

13. There is no justification for the murder of 6 million Jews in German concentration camps.

Where do I stop.

Are we not caught up in an endless game of tit-for-tat violence and cruelty? This is what I see happening in the Middle East today - an escalating game of tit-for-tat violence in the absence of an easy solution to a complex political problem. There are guilty people on both sides. There are innocent people on both sides. The Israelis aren't going anywhere. The Palestinians aren't going anywhere. I really think the region needs someone like Gandhi to emerge.
