In Ian's original post he observed that he was comfortable allowing price and volume tell him how to trade the market. I got the impression, because he was a pit trader, that he was looking at volume in the pit.

If he meant stocks, well okay. But I've mused on this ever since this thread started.

How does one determine volume in the Index pits, the S&P for example. I just see ticks, don't you?
