<<Even discounting the dirty and sulfurous nature of coal and the cost of scrubbing the stack gases, coal is the worst in terms of putting CO2 into the atmosphere. >>

Guess you never heard of the low sulfur coal produced in much of the west.

That lacking, restrictions placed on wind power due to perceived visual & noise pollution must no longer exist!

<<No way that coal will find much of a come back IMVHO.>>

rolatzi,

Any chance you know the SI member C.L.theOnly? a.k.a. C. Lawrence Perkins

There is a thread here on SI of a gold producer that saw the
dot com writting on the walls and decided to wait out the
low price of gold wait by getting involved in another type
business activity. Rather than have an X rated porno site
occupy their company web site, the president decided to
use his skills of con'ing money out of investors and go big
time and con the US government and the state of Alaska.

Big aTime he has done it, yes indeedie. ... a multi-billion dollar global market.

Silverado Gold Mines Ltd.
... discovery of a revolutionary new, clean-burning fuel
that replaces many of the industrial applications for oil
at a fraction of the cost.....
... produced for cost... equivalent of U.S. $7 per barrel of oil.
... working with the United States government
and the State of Alaska to complete funding requirements
for conversion of Silverado's mill in Alaska to produce
the first commercial oil fuel substitute.

Warning: Yes I own shares in this company. I also asked
the SI resident scientist Zeev Hed about the following.
... to create what is known as Low-Rank Coal-Water Fuel.
Zeev mentioned that this process has been looked at
for a long time, and as far as he is aware its not yet ready
for prime time, which makes sense since no one is using
the stuff. But if you are willing to look into a Brooklyn Bridge
type investment that may be that 1 in a zillion 2 B for real,
then here it is.

If it did come 2 B
then the Middle East oil important would be lessened,
depending to what degree its capacity is and time required
to bring to market its full capacity.
