O/T: Mickey-That is quite a generalization. My point is that it is religious fanaticism that is the problem, not simply being an Arab or an Irishman or whatever.

Look back in history and you'll note that the shortest conflicts are those which had little to do with pure religious differences. They typically were geopolitical/economic in nature. World War I and II, Korea, and Vietnam combined totaled approximately 25 years. Moreover, the adversaries in most of those conflicts are now allies.

The longest conflicts between people are always fueled by religious differences. The three Crusades,the Spanish Inquisition, Greece/Turkey, Ireland/England, Arab/Israeli have been/were significantly longer, lasting centuries.

As far as your comment re: "total disregard for human life, that too is linked to the fanaticism and aspirations for martyrdom.
