That is why the logic of trading off volume escapes me.

<true contract volume is not available till after the market closes. >

I was wondering if someone was using some esoteric formula, comparing the volume somehow to something else.

I imagine looking at ticks on the e-mini is better than nothing. It is a little difficult, as looking back over the past three weeks the tick count looks to be the same pattern. High volume early in the day tapering off from there. Usually high volume during the 8th bracket (between 2:45 and 3:30 EST) and low volume mid-day. Pretty standard stuff as Theory goes, the early and late brackets are heavy and the middle three are light.

It is difficult for me to visualize how this helps the Futures Index trader. I can see where Volume analysis is useful in equities, of course.

Looks like core PPI whacked the mini, by the way.

Anyway I think it unlikely that anyone will be able to point it out, but I would love to know how watching volume is a help in trading SP Futures.
