Elmer, >Intel has made new additions to its server product lines, providing new two-way, four-way, and eight-way servers that are designed to facilitate a wide range of applications in the workplace. Intel hopes the new product offerings will allow its customers to help boost the power of their networks.

The same old question needs to be asked, and that's how is Intel selling these servers? Do they sell them to OEMs who then put their covers and logos on them, and then resell them? Or, is Intel selling them to end users. I expect the former. Intel doesn't need to be POing their good customers Compaq, Dell, etc., by selling directly against them. In any case, these can only help Intel revenues.

Intel® SRPM8 Eight-Way Pentium® III Xeon™ Processor Rack Mount Server: The new Intel SRPM8 eight-way, high-end rack mount system features the Intel® Profusion™ chipset and supports up to eight Pentium® III Xeon™ processors.

I hope this signals the end to the shortage of the 700 MHz 1 - 2MB cache Xeons that have to go into the 8-ways.

Good article.
