I agreed with your general point posted last night that these events have occurred as a result of Arafat's planning and inciting violence against the Israelis in order to leverage additional concessions. That tactic can only be made to backfire if we use this election to change to a Republican administration that does not seek unilateral concessions from our allies just as Chamberlin did from Chekoslovakia in a vain attempt to appease Hitler. I think that analogy is especially apt given the nature of the territorial concessions that were sought then and now.

It also seems clear that Arafat hopes to color his own failure to accept the negotiated concessions as the cause for the failure of the PLO/PNA's final sovereign status.

Finally, last night at dinner as corny as it may sound our family said a prayer for the lost sailors. I believe that the two gentlemen who appear to be in conflict, especially as you are both veterans, might both find some solace in that act. I also said a silent prayer for just retribution against those SOBs that killed our men.

Well you oughta know about the power of communication, then. --- I was listening to NPR or the BBC yesterday while crawling through SF/SV traffic and hearing about the 'national' soul searching that's going on right now in the former Yugoslavia. Generations of hate coming to terms with the power of communication which was used to manipulate it, and the power of the broader (international) communications network as it erodes away generations of manipulated hatred. I'm thinking of the song 'Mohammed's Radio' here... nicksfix.com --- You can't keep Palestinians in 'camps' forever. Eventually, you're going to have to kill them, or embrace them. --- My sense is that business is good for the average Israeli, and that business is 'communications' (Internet related). The money wants peace. The money wants skills. --- Are the Palestinian 'dogs' untrainable? Or are the Israeli 'dogs' unable to train? -JCJ
