TCD, Re: Do we want intel to be in trouble or do we want to make money?

Both. <g>

Seriously, though, we want marketshare AND asp growth, which tend to be at odds with each other.

Much better to make our unit #s this Q, than pump up ASPs.

The real ASP booster is not available until we have entered the server/corp markets anyways.

Besides, this new blended Athlon ASP is not that bad.

AMD's strategy is cutting price on GHZ TBird to enter the corporate desktop. I expect SKUs from Europe, Asia first. We will hear it in AMD annual conf w/ analyst on 11/7. This will be the most watched event as AMD updates the financial community on corporate SKUs, chipset. There might be some positive suprise in these areas. VIA might accelerate vol for KT-133 before 12/00. IT will have a hard time ignoring cheap GHZ TBird parts. Even at reduced price, TBird still commands a premium compared to Duron. Paradoxically AMD strategy might increase blended ASP if AMD produces more TBird. Since TBird offer more performance, customers don't mind the slightly hiher MB as cited in CC.
