I think you just described one possible reason that is announcing it now would be similar to announcing it at intel's earning - insignificant. The best amd can hope for at this time is a positive effect on intel :-))
few days after earnings when emotions would cool down that may be a better time
just a speculation

Petz,

How about getting the news of 1.2 GHz shipment into every story about Intel's earnings? How is that for free publicity. But to do that, Tuesday would have been ideal day.

John,

<Anyone have a clue why AMD did not announce the 1.2 GHz this week since shipments must have started at least a week ago?>

My guess is AMD wants the top tie OEMs to join the party. But Gateway and Compaq may not be ready yet. So AMD released it to the channels and the SD shops first while waiting for the big boys. Or AMD wants to announce 1.2 along with 760? I remember Jerry touting 1.2+760 in a ZDTV interview last month.

Lot of good responses to your post. Here's mine, It's because their PR department sucks and they have no clue how to manage the street.

My portfolio was up today, only because I've reduced my stake in AMD. I'm down to 600 shares and I don't think I'll be adding any more for quite a while.

Ready to throw in the towel,

David
