Gratuitous response-response.

You realize that you are scaring computer-phobes don't you?

Well stop that! All that FVWM and xvga and stuff. That's really complex.

You still use 2.0.36? So you can't use realplayer and a few other thingies that 2.2.16 or 2.2.14 allow you to use.

I run one pooter on Slack 7.0 wich uses 2.2.13 kernel. I use an old 166 pentium and a NecMultisyncXV driven by an ancient Cirrus card. An adaptec 1542A scsi card runs an old voice coil seagate drive. The window manager is fvwm95. Two other boxes run other similar components. One runs Slack 4.0 which has the 2.0.36 kernel and another runs an ancient version of Yggdrasil fall 95 linux which uses fvwm.

The Slack 7.0 box uses a DSL connection and subnets the other two boxes under it with web access.

One thing about Linux is it does allow you to run old hardware efficiently.

i tried kkde and gnome. They had impressive features but I think they are memory hogs and there is a learning curve that bugs me with some very simple things. I can see where KDE would appeal to some users however.
