Jim Wright of Texas did let the S+L de-regulation bill past. The Dems in Texas and Louisiana were in on it too. Texas was a hot-bed of S+L thievery. But it was the Reagan administration which championed it and proclaimed it signalled "a great day for America!" 800 billion later plus interest still running I wonder why nobody talks about it anymore. The reason I focus on it is because I've read every book on the subject. Teaches you a lot about corruption in America. You expect it elsewhere in the world but not here. And now Bush wants to give tax-breaks. Why doesn't he pay off the 800 billion and the rest of the national debt first? Paying down the debt has been the #1 key to the past 8 years of prosperity. Rubin gets the credit and Clinton for listening to him.
