To understand the Audrey, you have to forget what you know about PC's for a
moment.

I think the target audience for Audrey will be folks who turn on their TV and
expect sound and pictures in <10 seconds (timed your Windows startup lately?).
Folks who actually believe the little stickers that say "no user serviceable parts
inside". Folks who have watched us dimantle and swear at our PC's and wonder
why in hell anyone would take on such frustration. Folks who are smart enough
NOT TO BE their own sysmgrs.

Repeat the new mantra: "radical simplicity, radical simplicity..."

Audrey is a lot like the old VHF-only televisions. Her simplicity will appeal to the
people who were left behind in the PC wave. How many of your
friends/neighbors/family have never been on a PC, let alone on-line? What will
THEY think of Audrey?

As for shock over the MSRP, look at any consumer electronics toy you want, and today's version is better and cheaper than yesterday's.

I'll make a prediction that the price of Audrey and the price of COMS will cross
each other within 40 months. But then again, I'm long on COMS and not_terribly_cerebral.

Will it make money? What would YOU pay to be one of the 20-or-so
"factory-installed channels" on Audrey, knowing that most of her users will
reconfigure the dial about as often as they program their VCR's? Once you're in as a chennel, what would advertisers pay YOU for access to those loyal viewers?

Can you say "captive audience"? Sure you can.
