Re: why is it so hard to understand a 1% GM increase and a .3% drop in the SGA % produces $32.9 million

Drew, that's not what I'm getting at. What I want is to dig deeper into the numbers, maybe some others can help shed some light, do some comparisons and see what's really going on. Something does not seem right. If they are growing their out of the box business that well with revenue growth below the PC market growth rate, they must be losing market share (or staying flat) in PC's and I don't think IDC's numbers show that to be the case.

I think they are being very smart about managing perceptions and Dell should do the same but I'm sensing that it could be more of an amplification of certain facts.

I'm going to look at the numbers tonight to see if I can glean anything from them. They don't appear to break anything out but it seems that if their business was changing as dramatically as they claim, it will show.

23% gross margins are good but still very PC like. It
could be that true PC margins are much lower and their
other high margin businesses bring the average way up.
But that still does not explain why COGS is keeping up with revenue.

Does gateway consider a notebook or server a PC?

I need to see things in numbers and have the details to be convinced of anything. Can anyone help here or answer any of my previous questions?
