Keith,

It isnt the Optical networking that is being spun off, it is the Microelectronics division. That division makes DSPs, ASICS, chips for the PC market, chips for telecommunications , chips for access, mass storage, as well as optical and other networking.

This division grew earnings at about 50% this past quarter (a real bright spot in the LU story), better than NTs total growth.

It is estimated by some analysts that on its own, on a 1 for 1 share spinoff, it is worth $25 a share.

Incredible to think that this value is completely hidden in the current $23 share price for LU.

I asked someone who did an analysis on this board yesterday how they accounted for the hidden Micro value. No reply yet.
