Actually, according to insurance actuary tables, a person who rides a cycle as their primary transportation has around a 1:1000 chance per year of dying on it, whereas a person who exclusively drives a car has around a 1:40,000 chance of death per year.

But these statistics are REALLY skewed by all the 18 year olds who go out and buy pocket rocket japanese superbikes and proceed to crash them at 140mph.

The 50 year old husband who rides a harley on weekends isn't very likely to die in a fiery crash. :)
