McJimbo - Re: "As long as AMD differentiates the Mhz it will work for AMD. "

Ahh.. Reality Check !!!

It ISN'T WORKING for AMD !!!

Didn't you get the message?

AMD's ASPs went DOWN this past quarter !!!

AMD is forced in to selling Durong's at Kmart 62 prices - and the Durong is 22% BIGGER than the Kmart 62 !

McJimbo =- Re: "SMP? Yeah, no doubt AMD is dragging there...and we all wish we knew why...as MP on the EV6 bus shouldn't be that hard and the Athlon core was supposedly designed with up to 14 way SMP in mind."

So much for AMD's Technical superiority !!!

Re: "OTOH, what % of boxes are SMP"

100% of the HIGH MARGIN boxes are SMP !!

Jim - re: "OTOH, what's the mobile market compared to the desktop market"

For CPQ and DELL last quarter it represented a little more than 20% of units and almost 30% of "PC" revenues. It was 30% of product revenue for DELL. For CPQ, which has less than half of its revenues in "PCs" of all classes, including desktops, it represented about 14% of revenue. They did not break out revenue but I assume their ASPs are similar to DELLs so the distribution ought to be about the same. Both companies are growing laptop revenue at more than twice the rate of desktop revenue.

Jim, >...the Athlon core was supposedly designed with up to 14 way SMP in mind.

They even picked an "odd" number. 14?
